playing with her rings

I got some good pics of Sophia playing with her rings, and she actually sat up for a bit so I could try and get a smile out of her. She loves grabbing things, including her blanket, and can now pull it up over her head.

guess who went swimming this weekend

So, we took Sophia swimming for the first time this weekend. However, she missed her morning nap, so by the time we got her into the pool, she was exhausted and not in the mood to try swimming. Maybe next weekend will go better.

We also took Rexy swimming with us, and he did not seem to like it any more than Sophia did. He seemed content to float around on me on the floaty, but bailed as soon as we got close to the edge.

2 Month Photo Shoot

Sophia will be 2 months old tomorrow. It is amazing how quickly the time with her has gone by. She is such a different baby than the day we brought her home, so much more alert and with tons of personality. I am so glad that I am blessed enough to stay home with her every day and see those changes as they happen. I still tear up just thinking about what a wonderful gift God has given Andy and I to love and care for. Here are some good pics from her 2 month photo shoot. She actually sat still for quite a while, so I was able to get a number of good shots (out of the 70 that I took).

it started with a tattoo

So on the DMN book blog that I read, there was a post about literary tattoos, which reminded me that I have been wanting a tattoo for a while now, and it is of the literary nature. It seems silly, but I never really wanted a tattoo until the idea for this one came to me. I want to get a fig tree tattooed on my back. In the book The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, there is a passage about a fig tree, which I discussed in my first posting, as it was the inspiration for the name of this blog. However, the fig tree also has a Biblical reference, which is also something I would like to remember with the tattoo. In Matthew 21:18-22, Jesus is hungry, and comes across a fig tree that has no fruit, only leaves. Jesus then whithers the tree, never again to bear fruit, and tells his disciples that they too can whither trees and move mountains if they only ask God for it and have faith. Though the common interpretation of this passage is the faith message, I view it also with a secondary message. Jesus sees a fig tree in the distance in full bloom, but upon closer inspection finds it only has leaves; no fruit. I like to view this passage as a reminder that being a Christian is not about what people view on the outside, from a distance, for appearances can be deceiving, but about the truth and motivations that lie in my heart, the "fruit" that God can see. It is something I think needs to be remembered, by myself included, in this age that has become so much about appearances.
